Romania and Moldova have initialed, through IS Moldelectrica and Transelectrica, the bilateral cooperation agreement in electricity, including also investment to upgrade and develop electricity infrastructure in Moldova, according to a press release of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Relations with Business Environment (MECRMA).
"Yesterday [Tuesday, July 26, 2016] Chisinau hosted the meeting of the Joint Working Group on Energy within the Inter-governmental Commission Romania — Moldova. The Group analyzed the progress on projects to interconnect electricity and natural gas transmission networks between Moldova and Romania. Particularly discussed were the new development phases of the Iasi — Ungheni pipeline on Moldova's territory up to Chisinau, and in Romania, up to Onesti. In terms of electricity, there were discussed the future actions regarding the implementation of the first asynchronous interconnection Isaccea — Vulcanesti — Chisinau. The feasibility study of this electricity interconnection is under progress, conducted by a consortium led by ISPE," mentions the said release.
During the meeting, the managers of IS Moldelectrica and Transelectrica signed the bilateral cooperation agreement in electricity, which involves investment to upgrade and develop the electricity infrastructure in Moldova, providing technical assistance by making available experts and highly qualified specialists.
The Romanian delegation was headed by Sorana Baciu, State Secretary with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Relations with Business Environment, and Corina Popescu, State Secretary with the Ministry of Energy.
The Working Group on Energy was created as a result of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two governments on projects for interconnecting the networks of natural gas and electricity in Romania and Moldova, signed in Chisinau in May 2015. Agerpres
